A journey through the dark heart of pornography addiction into the light of understanding beyond
In the wake of the #METOO Twitter phenomenon men can no longer ignore the fact that something about male sexuality is fundamentally broken. If there are so many female victims then there must be so many male victimisers. It’s tempting to discard individuals like Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and other recently exposed high-profile figures as one-offs, ‘bad eggs’, or statistical outliers. In reality they are the tip of an iceberg of male sexual dysfunction that ranges from the worst excesses of sexual violence down through much lesser forms of dysfunction, generally of a non-criminal nature but still damaging to everyone involved. Of these, by far the most widespread is porn addiction. While porn is generally consumed alone, it still wreaks havoc on relationships, jobs and children. Considering the size of the industry and the amount of time spent consuming it, porn has to be the most under-reported facet of human existence. It’s time we talked about it.
Pornography Addiction 101 is part memoir, part Haynes manual, part history lesson, and part self-help course. Cumulatively, its multiple components provide a radically different interpretation of the widespread phenomenon of pornography addiction from conventional, often 12-step based, therapies – an interpretation that, if fully embraced, allows addicts and their partners to understand both the historical origins and emotional mechanics of pornography addiction, a knowledge base upon which a genuine long-term recovery can be founded.

“I was seriously blown away by Michael’s book Pornography Addiction 101 – a brave, insightfully thought-provoking and well-researched publication that had me hooked from start to finish… This book is not only for the person who wants to overcome his/her addiction but also for the partners and other people who are affected by this destructive obsession… The book offers the reader compassion and a real sense of understanding.”
Cherie Roe Dirksen, The Art of Empowerment
“Having developed men’s health many years ago in my region in Australia I find that Mike’s book is most timely. It is very much needed in the world we have created today where sexuality is a subject which is both taboo and fraught with misinformation and distortion. An area where research is often overlooked. Mike is obviously a deep thinker and this combined with his rollicking writing style makes for an easy and entertaining read without losing the wonderful depth of meaning he offers us. I suggest it is an essential read for all adults and especially men.”
