I recently caught up with some old friends. One commented that I’d been “writing weird stuff”. I’m not sure whether they were shocked or relieved that I still appeared to be of sound mind and body. To those that have no experience of Ascension, it must appear that those who write about it have lost their minds. My background is in industrial processes—canneries, aluminium smelters, bio-pharmaceuticals—yet here I am writing about this crazy little thing called Ascension.
As yet, Ascension has not reached the mainstream. It only affects a fragment of the population at any one time. In this sense, it operates like a narrow-band compressor works with music.
As yet, Ascension has not reached the mainstream. It only affects a fragment of the population at any one time. In this sense, it operates like a narrow-band compressor works with music. It takes a thin, carefully selected band and squashes it. The analogy with musical compression is appropriate as going through Ascension feels like going through one of those old hand-turned wringer washing machines. It is physically, mentally and emotionally crushing. But on what basis does Ascension select its target band? On sensitivity.
Highly Sensitive People
Human sensitivity is distributed in a bell curve. Most of the population has an average level of sensitivity. A small number of people have very little sensitivity. Conversely, a small number have high sensitivity. Elaine N. Aron, PhD, did the numbers in her book The Highly Sensitive Person. She found that 15 to 20% of the population have a higher than average sensitivity. This tapers off into a smaller group—including myself—whose sensitivity is significantly higher than average. Aron uses the acronym HSP to describe such people. Other terms include ‘sensitives’ (obviously) and ‘empaths’, due to the ability to feel the emotions of others.
The Ascension process begins at the top of the sensitivity spectrum and is working its way downwards. So far only a tiny proportion of the population is emerging from this process. A larger number are now in the midst of it. Geometrically, Ascension assumes the shape of a hyperbolic funnel that slowly sucks you in then rapidly spits you out. For the first wave this process took a couple of decades. I would expect this ‘lap time’ to drop as we improve our understanding of the process, our tools and our ability to adjust to its rigorous demands. I’ve charted it to the best of my limited graphic artist abilities below.
X marks the spot
The Y axis shows the amount of the population affected by Ascension at any one time. The X axis is a (very approximate) time scale. Counter-intuitively, the area of active compression is moving from right to left. This seems appropriate as the whole Ascension thing is counter-intuitive. Please bear in mind that this evolutionary process is so new that no one, including those who are undergoing it, fully comprehend it.
Of course, it’s quite possible that I have gone crazy and just haven’t realised it. In this case, feel free to discard this information and ignore the entire body of Ascension literature. But if your life starts getting weird(er), with a whole raft of physical, mental and emotional symptoms gradually appearing, you may have entered the narrow-band compressor of Ascension. Please know that you are not alone—and you will make it through.
